hi :) haha I'm pretty much your target audience! đŸ˜‚ I bought a silk one from amazon but would like to update to one that only has natural materials: The one I bought has a polyester filling which gets hot at night and doesn't feel as breathable. I would love it to be filled with wool for example, which regulates your temperature and maybe infuse it with lavender? It would smell great and have a calming effect too! Maybe it could have a removable top that you can wash? I was literally thinking of just making it myself so I think there would be a market for it.
And, personally, I think it's a good thing you want to feel really good about your product. I know people make money off of cheap things but my gut feeling is it'll get you further if you really love and use your own product.
Thank you so much for sharing :-) and you know it's interesting that you mention that! The polyester filling. This was something we looked at a lot and tried to customise with the same idea. Moving away from any kind of plastic based materials.
There are a couple of problems with changing the filling.
If you change it to something more natural like wool, for e.g. it loses shape and becomes lumpy when you wash it. Other natural materials also seem to break down (and our face sweats lightly as we sleep) so we worried about something that might grow bacteria inside, and then people put that over their eyes. So we opted for the standard filling of polyester.
The idea was, at least with the silk outer layer, there wouldn't be direct contact with the skin. A frustrating solution.
Also, changing the product with this filling would seem to involve a lot of customisations at the factory/ies. Which would make the cost go up a lot. On the factory side, they'd probably not take our order since they need to source that material for us and relearn how to cut it, etc. But if they did, they'd add a big markup to it to make it worth their time.
But this is an example of the kinds of physical product problems that I think are so much cooler to try problem solve than regular client service or digital problems :-).
With making your own - I think this is definitely possible. When researching, I saw some patterns on Etsy that seemed worthwhile, if you're handy with sewing?
mmm yes it's clearly a whole different thing having to make it profitable and make sense selling online instead of just sewing a few at home and then selling them on a farmers market đŸ˜‚ I guess that's the beauty of regular client service or digital products - less moving parts to consider.
I've come across a few people getting their products from Temu or Alibaba, branding it, and then selling it 40% more expensive. Feels kinda scammy but I can see how that would be so so so much easier.
$1500 - $2k is crazy worth the lesson from having concept to delivery.
good on you for doing it.
wish I wouldve known before wifey bought a similar facemask not too long ago lol.
Thanks mate! Appreciate you.
To be fair, didn't include the labour cost for the team who works with me on the ads :)
What kind of mask did you wife get? I hope it's great!
